Each year in March, Suffolk University celebrates people who work to bridge social divides. Recognizing the thematic relevance of Grace Paley's work, the theater department invited URT to present a few excerpts from their work-in-progress based on Paley's stories, poems and essays. Thanks to the contributions of several wonderful actors - Stephanie Clayman, Khalil Flemming, and Ted Kazanoff - the reading was not only well-received but the feedback is continuing the process URT uses to create new works: a continuing dialogue with its audience. "What a wonderful idea to transform the salt and pepper shakers and cup into characters!" "...a beautiful and affecting program.... (now add) a bit more intertwining of the personal and the political... Faith and hope are only meaningful when given concrete expression..." If you are interested in being invited to future work-in-progress events and becoming part of the dialogue, please contact URT Artistic director, Debra Wise at dwise@undergroundrailwaytheater.org. |
